Danakali Nominated for 2020 AAMEG Africa Awards




Oct 24, 2020: Danakali, a resource establishment focused on Colluli SOP Project in Eritrea – East Africa, has been nominated for Africa’s Influential ESG Leaders: 2020 AAMEG Africa Awards.

The Australia Africa Minerals & Energy Group (AAMEG) has announced its nominees for the 2020 AAMEG Africa Awards—the premier event recognizing leadership in environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices by Australian explorers, miners and industry service organizations working in Africa.




Among a competitive field of entrants, eight Australian companies have been shortlisted across the award categories of Best Innovation in Corporate Social Development, Best Workplace and People Development Initiative and the inaugural Emerging ESG Leader Award, sponsored by the Minerals Council of Australia.

“We were thrilled with the quality of the entrants for our second annual AAMEG Africa Awards,” said AAMEG CEO Bill Witham.

“Our nominees are setting the standard for innovation in sustainable and ethical mining practices, with long-term strategies that will deliver tangible benefits across education, employment and healthcare.”





Witham continued, “Despite the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, it’s heartening to see the Australian minerals and energy sector in Africa remain absolutely committed to fostering better socio-economic outcomes for their host communities, in line with the UN’s sustainable development goals.”

Danakali Limited is focused on the development of the Colluli Potash Project located in the Danakil Depression region of Eritrea, East Africa in a Joint Venture with the Eritrean National Mining Corporation (ENAMCO). The project targets development of a world class potash project that will become pivotal for Global and African agriculture. Colluli is expected to provide an outstanding economic, social and community dividend through positive impact on infrastructure, job creation and sustainability in Eritrea.

The winners will be announced at the official 2020 AAMEG Africa Awards on 4 November held as part of the Africa Down Under (ADU) Conference at the Pan Pacific Perth, Australia. Finalists will be recognised by an esteemed judging panel, including Dr Muza Gondwe, Project Manager –Association of Women in Mining in Africa, Fred Soale, Hon Consul –Consulate of the Republic of Ghana in Perth, Tania Constable, Chief Executive Officer –Minerals Council of Australia and Ben Gargett, Vice Chairman of AAMEG.
