The Eritrean president has criticized US interference in the Horn of Africa, calling it the main source of instability in the region.

Washington’s interference is the main factor contributing to regional problems, Isaias Afwerki said in a meeting with the Iranian Ambassador to Asmara Reza Ameri.

Afwerki also expressed concern about the situation in Somalia and called for a way out of the current crisis with a resolution that incorporates the will of the Somali people.

Afwerki’s comments came as the Somali government signed a landmark peace agreement with some opposition figures at the end of a reconciliation conference in Djibouti.

During the conference, the two sides agreed to a cease-fire, which will come into full effect on November 5.

According to the agreement, African peacekeeping troops will replace Ethiopian forces in Somalia, after they start pulling back from the cities of Beledweyn and Mogadishu on November 21.

Ameri, for his part, said that his country was ready to enter into extensive cooperation with the African state.
