2008: Micheal Tiku Lost Victory on the Verge of the Finish Line

The second phase of Tour of Eritrea 2008 continued after a
day off on Thursday 17th April 2008. This sixth stage covered a total
distance of 118 km. Last year’s tour champion Merhawi Gebrhiwet from
EriTel Cycling Team won the stage from his teammate Micheal Tiku who
lifted both hands on the verge of the finish line thinking he had won
the stage, not realizing the danger coming from behind in a flash. As a
result, Merhawi stepped across the threshold in a very narrow
difference from dump founded team captain and twice tour winner Micheal
Tiku. The result:
