Great Care Taken To Ensure Safety Of Civilians: Army Deputy Chief

Addis Ababa, November 5, 2020 (FBC) – The Ministry of Defences said all necessary precautions were taken to ensure safety of civilians during an offensive attack carried out yesterday against the TPLF group.

In a press conference issued today, General Berhanu Jula, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defence Force (ENDF), said the TPLF group has committed treason by attacking the defence army.

Instead of resolving any political differences via political discussion, the TPLF group waged war against the North Command Post based in the Tigray regional state, he said.

The defence army has been containing the attack successfully, the Deputy Chief of Staff said, and vowed to conclude the war soon as more troops are heading to the area to provide support to the North Command.

General Berhanu said the people of Tigray regional state have demonstrated their commitment for peace by showing their support to the national defence army.

The Tigray Special Forces, who were forced to engage in military confrontation with the defence army, have clearly expressed opposition to the TPLF group, he said.

General Berhanu said members of the defense army are helping those Tigray Special Force members who were wounded in the fighting by taking them to medical centers.

He finally called on the all citizens to stand by the side of the defence army to deter TPLF’s efforts to make the Tigray regional state a center of war and other parts of the country centres of terrorist activities.
