Merhawi Kesete from Eritrea won the Linz Marathon on Sunday.



The 25-year-old came home after 2:09:06 hours, undercutting his personal best by about three minutes and ran the third fastest time ever over the 42.195 kilometers in the Upper Austrian capital.







“It was a good race, I held back a long time and then attacked,” said Kesete. Second place went 13 seconds back to Felix Chemonges from Uganda. Kenyan co-favorite Nicholas Rotich finished third, 2:15 behind the winner. His compatriot, 3,000-meter obstacle Olympic champion Brimin Kipruto, finished eighth in his marathon debut in a time of 2:19:23.
