Addis Abeba – Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) has began airstrikes in Qellem Wellega and its environs in western Oromia, a military source told Addis Standard.

According to our source, the army’s targets are “military training camps run by OLA”, the armed group of the Oromo Liberation Front – Shane Group (OLF-SG).

The airstrikes have began this morning; it is unclear how long the army will conduct the operation. It follows yesterday’s bank robbery of the state owned Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and the Cooperative Bank of Oromia.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (ADV) – Ethiopia’s federal air force has begun pounding hideouts of the rebel Oromo Liberation Front, sources said.

No causalities have yet been established by Monday morning following the maiden air raids on Sunday.

The slug operation started on Sunday morning, local media reports said quoting unnamed military sources.

More precisely, the Addis Standard newspaper said the air strikes were targeting military camps run by the Oromo Liberation Army which is the armed wing of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) in Qellem Wellega along the border with Eritrea.

The OLF is one of about a half-dozen rebel groups that were based in next-door Eritrea.

The Standard newspaper did not, however, say how long the air strikes would last but noted that the military action could not be unrelated to two bank robbery incidents that were reportedly masterminded by OLA.

It can be recalled that the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and the Cooperative Bank of Oromia were robbed on Saturday while hostages were allegedly taken during the latest attack which has followed a series of others in recent times.

Despite accepting the olive branch extended by Ethiopian Premier Abiy Ahmed following the Ethiopia – Eritrea peace deal of July 2018, the OLF authorities were still to deliver well on their promise to disarm and return home.
