Video: 2017 Eritrea Martyrs Day Commemoration
Asmara, 20 June 2017- Eritreans living inside the country and abroad solemnly commemorated 20 June Martyrs Day.
The commemoration at national level was conducted at the Martyrs Cemetery in Asmara in the presence of President Isaias Afwerki, Ministers, senior PFDJ officials, Army Commanders, religious leaders, members of the diplomatic corps and thousands of citizens.
President Isaias Afwerki, Mr. Alamin Mohammed Seid, Secretary of the PFDJ, Gen. Flipos Woldeyohannes, Chief of Staff of the Eritrean Armed Forces, Ms. Tekea Tesfamicael, President of the NUEW, and Maj. Gen. Osman Aweliai, Governor of the Central region, laid wreath at the Patriots Cemetery.
President Isaias in his address stated that this year’s Martyrs Day is exceptional not only for the pompous preparations made by the Eritrean people living inside the country and abroad to solemnly commemorate it but also the open aggression perpetrated by the TPLF regime against Eritrea makes the day very momentous.
Notwithstanding the motive of the aggression, the attack will further cement the denotation and honor of the martyrs. He also paid tribute and wished eternal glory to those 18 heroic sons of this country who paid their precious lives to defend their country and people during the latest attack unleashed by the TPLF against Eritrea.
The participants on their part said that the martyrs will be honored when every citizen and especially the youth double fold their commitments to fulfill the martyrs trust and safeguard the sovereignty of the country that was realized with profound human and material sacrifice.
The event was highlighted with artistic performances depicting the legacy of the Martyrs and the steadfastness of the Eritrean people.
