The Eritrean Daniel Teklehaimanot opened the 102nd edition of the Tour de France in Utrecht in the Netherlands in the sweltering heat

The Eritrean Daniel Teklehaimanot opened the 102nd edition of the Tour de France as he rushed first to the assault of 13.8 kilometers of the opening lap Saturday at 14 am (1200 GMT) in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Under sweltering heat (35 degrees in the shade), the first Eritrean rider in history of the Great Loop is followed by 197 other competitors that rise by the minute. Defending champion, Italy's Vincenzo Nibali has to go last at 17h17 (3:17 p.m. GMT).

Switzerland's Fabian Cancellara, Germany's Tony Martin and Dutchman Tom Dumoulin are favorites of the opening lap, the one against the clock individual of this edition. One of the three wheelers is tipped to don the first yellow jersey.
