Eritrea Ambassador Rejects Military's Links to Sinai Kidnapping

BBC | 5 December 2013

Eritrea's ambassador to the UK and Ireland has rejected a report accusing Eritrean military officials of conniving in the trafficking of as many as 30,000 Eritreans in the Sinai desert over the last four years.

The report compiled by team of academics and human right campaigners from Sweden and the Netherlands, accused senior Eritreans of kidnapping, torturing and holding young people to ransom.

Others are sold to human traffickers in Sinai, only to be tortured to extract further cash from their relatives, the report says.

But ambassador Tesfamichael Gehratu told Focus on Africa's Komla Dumor that it was a lie.
